The challenge: programming campus life outdoors<\/h2>

The university wanted the plaza to work as a meeting point for the whole academic community: cinema, concerts, fairs and art shows.<\/p>

An open space imposes two conditions that are hard to reconcile. The image has to be visible in daylight, and the sound has to be clear without disturbing patients at the university clinic or classes in the nearby rooms.<\/p>

On top of that comes the weather: in Bogot\u00e1, anything installed in the open lives with rain and humidity all year round.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

The constraint that shaped the project<\/p>

The sound had to reach the plaza clearly and stop there.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t

The solution: a 6 \u00d7 4 m screen and sound that points<\/h2>

We installed a 6 \u00d7 4 metre LED screen from 375 LED, which delivers high-quality images in an open space.<\/p>

The audio is by Fohhn, a brand known for steering sound: it is intelligible across the plaza without affecting patients at the university clinic or teachers in the nearby classrooms.<\/p>

Both the screen and the speakers are built to withstand the rain and the weather conditions of the place where they are installed.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

Sustainability that is also economic<\/h2>

The screen is self-cleaning, which lowers maintenance costs. Fohhn speakers are built with nearby suppliers that reduce the carbon footprint, recyclable raw materials and spare parts guaranteed for up to ten years.<\/p>

That frees up budget previously spent on maintenance or on the technology refresh planned every five years. The university can invest it in fitting out new spaces and equipping more classrooms.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t
