Fohhn is a German manufacturer of professional sound systems, known for its beam-steering loudspeakers that direct sound toward the audience and keep it from bouncing off ceilings and walls. In Colombia, Integración AV designs and installs Fohhn systems for auditoriums and venues where speech intelligibility is hard to achieve.

Audio is one part of a full auditorium project, along with projection, lighting, and control. If you’re planning the entire space, the corporate and university auditoriums page brings together the solution and the delivered projects.

Fohhn and Integración AV in Colombia

In February 2023, after attending ISE in Barcelona, Juan Carlos Gutiérrez, Integración AV’s director, and Luis Martínez, Projects director, visited Fohhn’s factory in Germany and closed an agreement to represent the brand in Colombia, a representation we still hold today. The news was published by AVI Latinoamérica.

Since then we’ve included Fohhn in projects where the venue calls for it: large rooms, highly reverberant spaces, or places where the loudspeakers can’t alter the architecture.

What beam steering is and why it matters

In an auditorium with hard surfaces, much of the sound from a conventional loudspeaker hits the ceiling and walls first and reaches the audience delayed. The result is a voice that sounds loud but is hard to understand.

Beam steering uses digital processing to control the vertical dispersion of sound: the beam is aimed at the audience area, reducing the energy that reaches reflective surfaces. Because the adjustment is made in software, the loudspeaker can be mounted flush on the wall, built into the architecture, with no mechanical tilt.

Venues where Fohhn makes the difference

Auditoriums with high ceilings, rooms with a lot of glass or stone, heritage spaces, and halls that change configuration for each event. In all of them the problem isn’t volume but clarity.

Before choosing a model, we design the system through our audiovisual systems design service: coverage, number of loudspeakers, and placement based on the venue’s dimensions and materials.

Key idea

In a reverberant venue, more power doesn’t improve intelligibility; directing the sound does.

Active loudspeakers with built-in processing

Much of the Fohhn line integrates amplification and processing (DSP) into the loudspeaker itself. That reduces cabling and rack space, and lets you adjust each unit from a central interface.

What an audio project with Fohhn looks like

Besides auditoriums, we use Fohhn in large lecture halls, oversized boardrooms, and corporate spaces where presentations reach large audiences. The process is the same in every case.

  1. Venue assessmentWe measure the space, review the materials of ceilings, walls, and floors, and understand how it’s used.

  2. System designWe define coverage, the number of loudspeakers, their placement, and the audio signal diagram.

  3. Installation and configurationWe mount the equipment, integrate it with the microphones, the mix, and the network, and load each loudspeaker’s configuration.

  4. On-site tuningWe fine-tune coverage once the venue is finished, under real conditions of use.

  5. Training and maintenanceWe walk the operators through the system and schedule maintenance visits.

    Yes. We have represented Fohhn in Colombia since February 2023, when we closed the agreement with the brand, as reported by AVI Latinoamérica, and we include it in auditorium projects and venues with difficult acoustics.

     </details>

    It’s digital-processing control over the direction in which a loudspeaker projects sound. It lets you focus audio toward the audience and reduce reflections off ceilings and walls, which improves speech intelligibility.

     </details>

    When the venue is large or reverberant, when speech needs to be understood in every row, or when the loudspeakers can’t alter the architecture. In a small room with good acoustics, a conventional system is usually enough.

     </details>
