Shure Microphones: Types and Benefits in Professional Audiovisual Solutions

Shure microphones are chosen for the space and for how people speak in it: ceiling or table mics for meeting rooms, wireless handheld or lavalier mics for classrooms and auditoriums, and gooseneck mics for conference tables and paging stations. At Integración AV we integrate them as part of an audio project, with processing, control, and support in Bogotá and Medellín.

Microphones are one piece of our background music, paging, and professional audio for businesses solution. In a meeting or a class, audio is the least visible part and the one that matters most: a video call fails if there’s echo, delay, or a voice that’s hard to understand.

Why the microphone decides audio quality

Every microphone picks up sound in a different shape, called a polar pattern: some listen only from the front, others in every direction. Choosing the wrong pattern means picking up the air conditioning’s noise or the room’s echo along with the voice.

The measure that sums it all up is the signal-to-noise ratio: how much louder the voice arrives than everything else. That’s why choosing a microphone is a design exercise, not a catalog purchase.

Types of Shure microphones by space

Lavalier and Headset

For the teacher or speaker who moves around and uses their hands. The voice comes through steadily without holding anything.

Handheld, Wireless

For panels, audience questions, and guests. It’s the easiest to pass between people.

Gooseneck

For conference tables, institutional auditoriums, and paging stations, with a push-to-talk button.

Ceiling and Table Array

Array microphones that cover an entire boardroom table with no cables on top of it.

Processing: what makes a microphone sound good

In meeting rooms, Shure’s Microflex Advance series uses ceiling or table array microphones that form pickup zones over each seat. They include IntelliMix processing, which cancels echo, reduces noise, and automatically mixes the voice of whoever is speaking.

That lets people speak naturally, without leaning toward the microphone or worrying about where they’re seated. In large rooms, auditoriums, and classrooms, the processing runs on a separate unit that also adjusts the speakers.

Echo Cancellation

Keeps the voice of a remote participant from coming back through the speakers and re-entering the call.

Automatic Mixing

Opens the microphone of whoever is speaking and lowers the others, so noise from every seat doesn’t add up.

Control From the Panel

Mute, volume, and routing are handled from the same Crestron panel that controls the room.

Shure microphones in Bogotá and Medellín

We handle audio projects from our office in Bogotá and our office in Medellín: boardrooms, classrooms, auditoriums, and board rooms. In other cities we work with our own staff or with technical partners under our supervision.

We advise on microphone selection, check compatibility with the equipment you already have, install, train, and provide support after delivery.

Key idea

Even the best microphone underperforms if the processing and the installation aren’t done right.

From the microphone to the full system

The microphone integrates with the room’s speakers, processor, and control system. For meeting rooms, see boardroom microphones; for classrooms, classroom sound; and for large-format spaces, corporate and university auditoriums.

After installation, preventive maintenance checks batteries, receivers, wiring, and levels so the microphones keep working for years.

Frequently Asked Questions About Shure Microphones

Which Shure microphone is right for a boardroom?

In medium and large rooms, ceiling or table array microphones with echo-canceling processing. In small rooms, a single table microphone or the one built into a video bar may be enough. The choice comes down to the table’s size and the room’s acoustics.

Wireless handheld and lavalier microphones for the presenter, and gooseneck microphones at panel or delegate tables. All of them run through a processor that adjusts levels and prevents feedback.

Yes. We have offices in Bogotá and Medellín. In the rest of Colombia we work with our own staff or with technical partners.

Let’s Choose the Microphones for Your Space

The first conversation is a technical consultation: we review the room, how people speak in it, and what equipment can be reused. From there we prepare a proposal with the microphones, processing, installation, and support.
